Phytonutrients, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and trace elements

The term “phytonutrients” summarises a large number of different compounds that are produced by plants. They include carotenoids and citrus bioflavonoids, for example, which occur as natural substances in our foods.

  • The omega-3 fatty acids found in large quantities in fish oil especially include docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).
  • These are polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are found in cell membranes, for example. Vitamin A (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), biotin and niacin contribute to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes (e.g. mucous membrane of the mouth).
  • Vitamin B12, vitamin B6 , vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin C, pantothenic acid, folic acid, niacin and magnesium contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
